In recent years I have written and shared dozens of blog posts, on the topics of trauma, neuroscience, coping with hard things, and much more! But nothing got nearly as much attention as... Drumrole please... LAUNDRY!

There is something so unifying, so refreshing, so familiar and relatable about the laundry pile! We all know the deal. On Chol HaMoed the piles accumulate, and when Sukkos is over the laundry rush finally begins.

This year I gave some thought to the deeper lessons that might be hidden under the moldy dishtowels and soiled socks. That we can always clean up our acts, renew and refresh! Maybe that is exactly the lesson that HaShem wants us to remember as we go on our ways after the chagim.

Here's this year's video. Enjoy, have a laugh, and share with a friend somewhere in the world. After all, laundry unites us all!

First video is in English, the video below is in Hebrew, so you can share with your Hebrew speaking friends as well.

Rosh Hashanah, shofar blowin' through my soul,

Yom Kippur, standin' clean and feelin' whole,

Sukkah full of family, singin' late at night,

Simchas Torah, dancin' till the mornin' light.

Best days of the year, yeah, my heart was full,

Tinsel in my arms, feelin' beautiful...

Then CRASH, down I go,

Face first in the mountain, oy, where'd it grow?

[Chorus] I got a lotta laundry, ya man, a lotta laundry again,

Just when I was flyin', here it comes back in.

I got a lotta laundry, ya man, what can I say?

Happy International Jewish Laundry Day!

[Verse 2]

Make the breakfast, pack the lunch, wipe the table clean,

Somebody spilled the juice while someone screams

Cook the supper, scrub the pot, sweep up all the crumbs,

Sort 'em, wash 'em, dry 'em, fold 'em, here the next load comes.

Feed 'em, clean 'em, rinse, repeat,

Day in, day out on the same old beat...

How do I hold on to the light I found

When the laundry keeps on pullin' me down?

[Chorus]

I got a lotta laundry, ya man, a lotta laundry again,

Maybe it's not stam, from the sukkah to the spin.

I got a lotta laundry, ya man, a lesson for the year,

From the sukkah to the washer, HaShem brought me right here.

[Bridge]

Last sock in! Swish! Slam that door!

Look at that, I can see the floor!

Victory dance, I'm the laundry queen...

Then I catch my reflection in the washing machine.

Shmutz in my tichel, a stain on my heart,

Maybe it's me who needs a brand new start.

Spin me 'round, wash me through,

Every mornin' HaShem makes the whole world new.

Seven times I fall, seven times I rise,

Comin' out fresh with the light in my eyes.

[Pre-Chorus, beat returns]

'Cause it's never too late to clean ourselves up,

Like the laundry, life is full of downs and ups.

We can learn from the colors and the whites,

To make the most of all our days and nights.

[Final Chorus, harmonies build]

I got a lotta laundry, ya man, and that's okay,

I take the light with me in the everyday.

I got a lotta laundry, ya man, what can I say?

Happy International Jewish Laundry Day!

Still a lotta laundry... ya man.
